The Importance of Body Composition

Research has shown that body composition is directly related to health.
Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA testing), measures body fat,
lean muscle, cellular health and hydration in the body.
Katy provides BIA testing for her clients.

This information shapes the fundamental direction of each client's individualized program.

A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean
body mass, a condition known as altered body composition, can greatly increase risks for future health problems.

Research also shows that lifestyle influences, such as poor diet and lack of exercise, are main contributing factors to developing altered body composition. In fact, the association of altered body composition with chronic health conditions is so strong that the National Institute of Health convened an expert panel to
develop clinical practice guidelines for primary care practitioners to encourage programs for improving
body composition. Based on their review, the panel concluded that nutrition and lifestyle are of critical importance in promoting healthy outcomes for patients.

The prestigious New England Journal of Medicine states: "Persons with lower health risks tend to live
longer than those...with higher health risks..."

Lifestyle changes in the area of nutrition and exercise have been shown to reduce important risk factors
such as: high cholesterol, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and altered body composition. These therapeutic lifestyle changes are considered to be the only way to effectively maintain a strong, healthy
body and protect quality of life in the future.

This is where Therapeutic Nutrition can help. Katy is committed to your success. She will provide you
with the individual program your body needs to achieve and maintain your health goals. She will also help
